Education Leadership Fellow

Health Education England and Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust alongside BSMS are jointly funding for a 12 month contract an Education and Leadership Fellow to work at East Surrey Hospital.

This appointment will be suitable for an ST4 plus registrar.

Applications are invited for an Education and Leadership Fellow to work at East Surrey Hospital, Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. The post is available from October 2018 for a period of one year

This post is jointly funded by BSMS, Health Education England and Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, and its focus is on enhancing the quality of Trust-based education and training. You will be of Higher Specialty Trainee level and will be tasked with carrying out various projects in leadership, research and education within the Medical Education department, whilst focusing on developing your own education and leadership capability.

The specific priority focus of the post is to respond to and take action on the findings of the GMC NTS survey. The role will include co-ordinating senior and junior leadership projects, developing the leadership program, and organising and co-ordinating meetings between trainees and tutors.

You will be required to attend BSMS, regional and national educational meetings and liaise with the BSMS Programme Team and the local office of Health Education England as required. You will also provide mentorship and assistance to trainees with their quality improvement projects and develop education programmes for HEE KSS trainees generally to enable them to attain their competencies in practical procedures.

Your job plan will include

  • 2 days per week working with the Senior Trust Leaders and the Education Team to identify education issues, support trainees, and develop service improvement approaches to change aspects of the local educational offer.
  • 1 day per week undertaking a postgraduate study and qualification at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
  • 2 days per week carrying out clinical duties.

This post will be accredited as an OOPE (Out of Programme for Experience).
